From the 40th reunion:
I attended Marietta College in Ohio, but dropped out before graduating in order to follow my dream and travel the world. I lived in Europe and North Africa for two years, then worked for a travel wholesaler in Washington D.C. and Chicago for eleven years after that. I married in 1980 and we settled in Illinois. I have two children, Amanda born in ’83 and Travis born in ’86. While the children were growing up I did bookkeeping work, and I had a variety of part-time jobs. I have many fond memories of each of them, but not much put aside for retirement. I currently work, and will continue to do so for at least the next 10 years, in DeKalb, IL, for the Daily Chronicle. My daughter, Amanda, is a cellist and Jr. High School orchestra director in DeKalb. My son, Travis, who is also very musically talented, lives in Chicago, goes to school and works part-time.

After graduation I worked at NIH for several years. Met and marred Bob S. We had a son Bobby (currently a financial advisor, married with 3 children). In 1980 we moved to Florida to enjoy the weather. We built a business and subsequently divorced after 19 years.I went to the University of South Florida and earned a Business Administration Degree in 1994. I ran several companies after that; subsequently became a financial advisor. Met Jay Campbell at a country western dance class. We became friends and were married 01/01/2000. During my journey I discovered I loved teaching children with learning disabilities. I obtained my teaching certificate and spent several years enjoying teaching. In December 2007 I became ill. After a year I was unable to work anymore. Subsequently diagnosed with several illnesses including fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, small fiber neuropathy (all cause crippling pain)and numerous lung diseases (although I never smoked or was around smokers). I spent several years trying to get well with the support of my wonderful husband as well as many other supporters (thank you Jackie). Currently we have found treatments, medications and therapies that help me function on a daily basis. We are so grateful for how well I am doing. Every day is a blessing. Not how I would have chosen to spend my life, but made the best of the situation. Love reading about classmates and friends who travel and are enjoying life. |

Life has been good. I have been married to Sheila for over 48 years; we have a son and a daughter; five grandchildren. Our oldest grandson, Corey, is twenty and a junior at Wake Forest (makes me realize I am on the back nine!). I worked hard and was blessed with good luck, enjoying a successful business career. after graduating from UVa, I started my career in public accounting before joining Marriott in the late seventies, initially serving in a number of financial roles. Since the early nineties, I have been fortunate to lead several businesses in the travel and hospitality industries. At this point, I suppose that I am technically retired but serve on a number of corporate boards.About five years ago, we established our principal residence in northern New Hampshire--think few restaurants and no traffic! I am often asked why in the world we moved to such a remote location. My answer usually is that for me walking in the woods trumps good restaurants, at least most of the time. |
