Walter Gerald Avery
I grew up with Walter and his older brother Jacky from 4th grade through High School. He was the only person I stayed in touch with from WJ. We used to get together every Christmas when we were visiting home.
I was a Pallbearer at his funeral. A very sad experiance. I think of him often, especially around Chrismas when I imagine how we would be catching up on our lives and our families.
Walt and I played a lot of golf together in '65 and '66. We were on the golf team together, and he was really good. He was runner-up in the Maryland state junior and was club champion at Bethesda Country Club. He also qualified for the United States Golf Assn national junior championship, something I was never able to do. He and I went head to head twice in the Bethesda CC junior championship, and it was only luck that I got the better of him. As I recall, he went to Georgia Tech, but lost track of him after high school.
