I did not have a chance to play on the 1963 championship team but I did play with Danny and the rest of the guys on the 1961 and 1962 basketball team. I moved on to Walt Whitman in the 9th grade but Danny was a great athlete and a great guy. Proud to have known him and the rest of guys who I followed thru high school.

What a loss! As everyone knows, Danny was a truly great guy and an awesome athlete. His death hurt.  I vividly remember his passing being mentioned at our 20th reunion, and the reaction from everyone was audible shock.  He and Bruce Baker, who has also passed, were on our 1963 North Bethesda Junior High basketball team that went undefeated and won the Montgomery County championship.  Thanks to Les Guthman's dad, who won the Pulitzer Prize in the 50s for national reporting and was then the press secretary to Robert Kennedy, our team got an hour with RFK in his office as Attorney General in the spring of '63 and a tour of the FBI building.  Our session with RFK was immortalized in a photo that I and many of us on the team cherish and which was published several years ago by the Falls Church News Press after the movie Bobbie was released.
