Michael Lane Burrows, March 27, 1948 – December 10, 2019

Mike Burrows passed away December 10, 2019, at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, from a massive coronary. Mike enjoyed life and believed in living it to the fullest. Whether it was being part of a Formula V racing team in his younger years, enjoying the thrill of flying his Bellanca airplane as a private pilot, driving his beloved Jaguar, or enjoying good food and excellent red wine in the company of his many friends, Mike savored the experience of living.

A Marylander to the end, Mike graduated from Walter Johnson High School in 1966 and received degrees from Rochester Institute of Technology and Temple in printing-related technologies. He worked for several local and national print media and technology companies before forming his own business in the mid-1990s. Mike was president of Burrows Consulting, LLC, specializing in development and implementation of new communication technologies, and owner of Alert Publishing, a producer of law enforcement training material.

While in Rochester, New York, during the racing car chapter of his life, Mike met and married the love of his life, Michele Tifone. In their 47 years together, they raised two daughters, delighted in three grandchildren, cared for numerous dogs, and made countless friends and colleagues.

Since moving to their Silver Spring home in 1988, Mike also found time for civic and volunteer activities, serving on multiple boards, including a current term on the Montgomery County Commission on Common Ownership Communities, and networking with a wide range of colleagues, friends, and associates. He is remembered fondly for his larger-than-life personality, generosity, and sense of humor. He loved working behind the scenes, never aiming for the limelight, always aspiring to equitable solutions. At his standing-room-only celebration of life service on December 17, his friends recalled his wise business advice (“if you’re not getting the answer you want, you’re not talking to the right person”), his daughters shared life lessons (“ice cream is an acceptable dinner”), and his wife extolled his sartorial consistency (“a starched dress shirt, slacks, and loafers for every occasion”). All agreed that Mike will be dearly missed.

Mike is survived by his wife, Michele, daughters Tricia Cecil (James) and Katherine Snyder (Eric), and grandchildren Harrison Cecil, Charlotte Cecil, and Tucker Snyder.
