Classmates
The most important part of our reunion is to reconnect with friends in the great class of 1966. As Baby Boomers, think about what we’ve experienced, from learning cursive with cartridge pens to posting Instagram images with our smart phones; from learning about JFK’s assassination during the school day to watching the Twin Towers fall on 9/11; and for many of us, going from worrying about prom dates to welcoming grandchildren into our lives. It’s an amazing time to be living! Let’s celebrate and share.

While at WJ I was busy creating an art portfolio and taking outside classes in painting. I was accepted to the U of Michigan’s Art Department and graduated in 1970 with a BFA in Studio Painting and a minor in Art Ed. I got my tenure teaching art in DC and was living in Georgetown (it was nicer then) where I met my first husband, a Wharton grad and the father of my two boys Alex and Chris. We moved to NYC to begin our life together and I taught art at the Chapin School. We were transferred, thru Citicorp, to Pacific Palisades (Los Angeles), CA. I remained on the West Coast after our divorce in 1989 and just recently remarried; a wonderful guy, art lover and lawyer, Tom Rohlf. My boys, who are now in their late 30s are living close by and both doing very well. We chat every day and one day soon I hope to be a grandma! My true passion though, has always been about art. I have always had a large studio and shown my work. I was a docent trainer at the Wight Gallery, a UCLA Art Council Board member and 3 years ago retired from a 20-year stint of teaching drawing, painting, and mixed media at the Harvard Westlake School. I am presently a member of many art organizations. I love being around creative people. It also is a terrific venue for showing my work. My summers are always spent at the family cottage, The Abbey, near Traverse City, MI. I am a cat lover and this year we struggled to take our 16 lb. cat Stevie with us! |

| Comment: After an average stint at WJ (except sports!), went on to Montgomery Jr. College where my grades were good at first then went South resulting in receiving a draft notice (fun). Decided I was too big a target with the Army so enlisted in the Navy. Did my service until ’73, then, on to the U of Florida where I graduated with a BA in fine arts (mainly photography and drawing) in ’76…actually made dean’s list a couple times. I soon discovered that was a bad choice as a major as there were not many opportunities and too many folks already in that field. Took the FAA exam and was selected as an air traffic controller (flight service) in ’79. Worked at Tri City, TN, N. Myrtle Beach, and, finally, Nashville. I ended up being Air Traffic Manager when I was forced to retire in Oct. ‘05. Thankfully I was eligible to retire after being outsourced by Lockheed Martin in ’05 until ’10 with the same position. (I LOVED my job). Tried to seek additional work with no luck (too much snow on the roof and over qualified). Decided to retire. Also, went back to the Navy as a reservist and retired in ’06 as a chief petty officer. Really glad I did that as there are many benefits. Plan to stay in BNA…I love the area and enjoy my time with my wife, Susanne, Annie and Allie…my 2 step daughters (+2 dogs, 2 cats). It is great to hear from y’all (Nashville speak) and not surprised to see all the successes of our classmates. We were all fortunate to grow up there. Best Regards, Carl (a Spartan…..no Wildcat here!) | |

| Comment: I've lived in Orange County ca for the last 35 years. I have 4 children and 2 grandchildren. Most of my kids live here, with the exception of one son who lives in Alaska! I've spent the last part of 40 years doing residential home interiors. I continue to do this today on a personal referral basis. I love color and design and havakways been excited to see how design tastes change. My husband was in the Shutter industry, ( window covering) for 40 years. In fact I met him shortly after moving to So Ca. I have lived in Utah, Texas, Alaska and So, Ca. Since leaving Bethesda. I have traveled a lot and feel blessed to have been all over the world. I love the West with its beautiful mountains. I live 10 minutes away from the Oacific Ocean. Love the weather. No bugs and no high humidity, best of all no snow, and yet if I have a yearning for it I can drive 2 hours away and find it! | |
