Classmates

The most important part of this effort is to reconnect with friends in the great class of 1966. As Baby Boomers, think about what we’ve experienced, from learning cursive with cartridge pens to posting Instagram images with our smart phones; from learning about JFK’s assassination during the school day to watching the Twin Towers fall on 9/11; and for many of us, going from worrying about prom dates to welcoming grandchildren into our lives. It’s an amazing time to be living! Let’s celebrate and share.

Comment: I enjoyed my 3 years at WJ - but did not attend Junior High or Elementary School in Bethesda as we had moved from Severna Park, Maryland in 1964 to Walnut Woods along Montrose Road.  Formed our local rock band (first Karavans then The End) and played often at parties, dances and events from 1964 through graduation. We were honored to have been the first local band ever to perform live Kerby Scott's Wing Ding in the Spring of '66 - the DC version of American Bandstand!  I dated my sweetheart Linda Helmer (Class of 1967) throughout high school and only recently learned of her tragic passing in 2009.  After graduation, I attended Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA - to this day, an outstanding liberal arts college.  Became editor of The Bell (student newspaper) in the Spring of 1968 and president of the SGA in the Spring of 1969. I met and married Cynthia Day, a wonderful local girl and we had three daughters: Nicole ('69); Pamela ('70); and Courtney ('78).  All are now beautiful young women; all doing exceptionally well.  Nicole has a successful career in the Federal Government; Pamela is a sought-after Bikram Yoga instructor in Lower Manhattan; Courtney has been one of America’s top fashion models since 1997.

After a few years with a national trade association, I entered the advertising business in the DC area and ultimately launched my own Ad Agency in '79 with my father, Don P. Herron.  Met and married the love of my life, Jaci Pace Herron, in 1987 and continued operating the agency until '93, when we launched Gary Player Golf Vacations.  I relaunched my advertising and political consulting career until Jaci's early and tragic death November of 2009 of Systemic Lupus.    I am blessed with four grandchildren.   Jonathan is a junior at University of Tennessee; Joshua is a freshman also at UT (both the children of my oldest daughter Nicole); Samantha (7) lives with her brother Charley (4) in Sea Cliff, New York with her parents Courtney and Dan (a proud member of FDNY).

In 2007 I created an organization dedicated to returning America to her glory days. A non-partisan, non-profit called Up With America (www.upwithAmerica.org) – in memory of my late father and The Greatest Generation and in honor of my children and grandchildren.  After suffering a AAA in 2012 open heart surgery just 6 weeks after our fantastic 50th Reunion, I have recommitted my life to doing all in my power to preserve the Republic for generations to come.  Armed with a new "motor" stuck inside this 1948 body, I look forward to celebrating our 250th Birthday in July of 2026 - just after seeing all of you at our 60th Reunion.  It was an honor and privilege to serve on the 50th Reunion steering committee and to see so many old friends in May!

Graduated Tarkio College in Missouri 1970 with a major in Political Science. Moved to California that year to work in the hotel/restaurant business with my Aunt & Uncle.  Eventually became a Deputy Sheriff in 1974 with the L.A. County Sheriff's Department. I worked uniform patrol, personnel investigations, administrative support, jail supervision and recruit training.  Retired in 1996, then spent one year in Bosnia & Herzegovina working for U.N. as part of their International Police Task Force.  Spent next 7 years managing a non-profit agency in Upland, CA providing services to schools and the community to help kids avoid substance abuse, teen pregnancy and smoking.  Went to Guatemala in 2005 for an archeological exploration.  As a result, I incorporated a 501(c)3 organization to address many needs (especially education) in a rural village in western Guatemala called “Chocola.”  I continue to operate Amigos de Chocola today. I have lived in Claremont, CA most of past 40 years--35 of those with my wife Brenda.  We spent one year living in Arlington, VA (‘14/’15) and reconnected with some classmates.  What a blast that was!  We are back in So. California where our two daughters live.  The Spartans 50th reunion was fantastic.  Really looking forward to the next reunion, and hope to join some local reunions in California.

Comment: From the 40th reunion:

After Walter Johnson, I went to school at West Virginia Wesleyan. Majored in political science. The main memory I have from there was the dreaded blue books they used for the tests. What i learned was how

many ways to rephrase a question when I had no idea what i was talking about in order to

fill up pages.

Back then, there was this unpopular war going on; some of you may be old enough to remember or is that now? deja vu again I guess.

I took awhile to get through school; but finally made it. I put in just a few months with the post office in Rockville. Then I got hired by the savings bond office in Chicago. The mission is to finance the public debt; basically to borrow money to pay for worthy government

projects like developing space ships to deport illegal space aliens. Just kidding. I spent about a year there; then the office was moved to Parkersburg WV in 1974, I've been here since then. Basically, I'm in customer service (whatever that means anymore, can't drive the big bulldozers, I guess.) The comic strip "Dilbert" reminds me of our office.

oh,yeah...I got married in 1985 (Kathy); we've got 2 kids. Joshua-18, and Cody-12. I was doing prettygood for awhile. i kept my hair, mostly, and even got carded for beer once when I was thirty-five. now i get the senior discounts without asking...rats..
