Classmates
The most important part of this effort is to reconnect with friends in the great class of 1966. As Baby Boomers, think about what we’ve experienced, from learning cursive with cartridge pens to posting Instagram images with our smart phones; from learning about JFK’s assassination during the school day to watching the Twin Towers fall on 9/11; and for many of us, going from worrying about prom dates to welcoming grandchildren into our lives. It’s an amazing time to be living! Let’s celebrate and share.

From the 40th reunion:I'm looking forward to our reunion (even though I only attended WJ for my senior year) and to seeing friends I have lost touch with, and hopefully making new friends! Believe it or not, I just bought a laptop, and am new at typing and sending my own e-mails!! I am enjoying reading all the bios, and I appreciate all that Norris Hillery has done to get the reunion going, Tom Meleney for the website, and the others of you doing so much to keep the ball rolling to the big day - Nov. 4th. I attended and graduated from the University of Maryland in 1970 with a degree in Elementary Education. I did post graduate work toward a Masters in Human Development and also attained 60 more credits during my 30-year teaching career in Montgomery County Public Schools. I taught second and third grade for 20 years, then specialized as a math teacher for grades K-5, and then created and taught a gifted and talented program for 2nd through 5th grades. I also taught 5th and 6th grade English, literature and writing in the French immersion school, and spent the final two years teaching in a new "balanced literacy" reading program for first and second graders. I lived in Rockville for ten years then moved to and currently live in Gaithersburg , Maryland . I love the beach and have spent every summer possible in Rehoboth Beach , Delaware . I also love to travel! I spent five summers in Europe and have been on 12 cruises to the Caribbean and Bermuda . I love to play volleyball and played on women's and co-ed teams in Montgomery County for twelve years, reaching AA at my peak. Now I play and enjoy golf! I studied calligraphy and am a member of the Washington Calligraphers Guild. Combining calligraphy and my art background, I established an arts and crafts business 20 years ago (while still teaching) - ABC Designs by Claire. I design and create novel pins and earrings, specializing in pins for teachers and school staff. I have over 500 copyrighted designs for my teacher pins and sell them at state, regional, and national teacher conferences, as well as school fund raisers and at craft shows in Maryland and Delaware . I use my calligraphy in my teacher pin designs. I am now in the process of adding a new line of custom pins. I take children's artwork and turn it into pins that can be proudly worn by their mothers and grandmothers. They make great gifts! I married Jerry Ingley (my best friend) in June 1979,and have been married for 27 years. Jerry was a career analyst at NSA, and is a musician, a songwriter, and writer. We met while he was playing in a band and I became a groupie! He has written and copyrighted over 100 songs and, during the '80s we traveled to Nashville yearly, pitching his songs to artists and publishers, and receiving four contract offers, one that was signed. I enjoy photography and did real estate photography until I got my real estate license in the '80's (never really sold any homes -only referrals - yet keep my license active to use myself). I really enjoy real estate and the market, which lead to our purchasing a condo in Rehoboth , DE , early in our marriage. We've spent nearly every weekend there since. Both of us are now retired and while I continue my pin business, Jerry is a consultant with Boeing supporting the DoD. In 2004, we bought a new home in Lewes , DE , near Rehoboth Beach and, having survived the building process have been setting it up and moving into it as a second home. We will eventually retire there full time. Meanwhile, we bought a condo in Leisure World, which is currently rented out, and plan to sell our Gaithersburg home and use the condo as a home base in MD, after we've moved to DE and while Jerry is still working in MD (it even confuses me sometimes!). 50th Reunion May, 2016 My husband Jerry and I are both retired now. We still have a second home in Lewes, DE, and still own our home in Gaithersburg, MD. We enjoy staying in DE and both of us have interests that consume our "free" time. I am still making and selling pins and earrings, doing arts and crafts shows and teacher conventions with my pins for teachers. I have a growing passion for my photography and in the last 5 years I have participated in many photography shows, winning 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons for my photos! I have joined the local Coastal Camera Club and try to attend the meetings with speakers so I can keep learning! My husband is involved with his music, writing and singing and playing around town. He's involved with a gourmet dinner/ music group where a chef demos how to prepare a meal and then the 3 of them play music before and after dinner! Looking forward to reconnecting with my classmates from WJ '66! |

Hi All -- I’m grateful to look both back in time and forward into the future. Here’s my journey … After WJ, I went to the University of Pennsylvania in Philly – majored in psychology and took lots of liberal arts classes, without much thought to a career. Amazingly when I look back, I got married at the end of my junior year. He started medical school in Philly while I completed my senior year and a Masters degree at Penn. I taught fifth grade in the city of Philadelphia, resulting in my being impressed by teachers the rest of my life. In 1972 he graduated from medical school, and we drove from Philly to an internship year in Arizona. Over the next several years, I traveled both peaks and valleys that hadn't been on my original map, by any stretch of my imagination. My husband abruptly left and moved to California, and after the divorce in 1974 I moved back to the DC area. I became a legislative aide to the new director of the heart institute at NIH – getting to see first-hand how Congress, committees, and staffers operate. I've followed politics ever since – a mix of political science, media, sociology, communication, values, culture, history, power, policy, and more – some great, some ... well, I'm sure you know. In 1977 I re-married, to a lawyer I’d dated for many months and lived with for a year, while one job at NIH kept leading to another. After 10 years I left NIH for consulting, thinking I would have more time and flexibility for family life with my husband and by then my daughter and son. I ended up being the DC-based liaison for an Australian-based company that invented the first cochlear implant for the profoundly deaf. I never made it to Australia (still a goal), but the work was inspiring. Other consulting years included helping NIH transition to those new-fangled computer machines, and doing a fellowship with the Innovation Network. Another son also came into our family during those years, at one point leading to having a kindergartener and two high school students at the same time. (There's a book in there somewhere ...) In 2000 I went back to NIH, where I’ve been working full-time ever since. In 2003 my marriage unexpectedly ended; parenting and career continued. I’ve loved each new opportunity I’ve had at NIH, including developing partnerships with mental health organizations, cancer advocacy groups, and a national consortium for workplace wellness. Now my children are all grown, doing well, and spread from coast to coast. I’m super-grateful to be healthy and have built a good life with family, friends, work, and many enjoyable interests. I’m planning to retire from NIH in early 2017, and have even started to date again … so if you know any guys who would like to share life’s adventures with kindness, resourcefulness, trustworthiness, and humor, feel free to let me know :-) I wish you all health, happiness, and good spirit ! From the 40th reunion: After graduating from WJ, I attended Hagerstown Business School . This led me to employment at Bethesda National Naval Medical Center where I met my husband. John and I were married in 1971 (35 years ago – hard to believe). Cassie, our daughter, was born in 1974, eight days before John was discharged. Two weeks later John started grad school at UVA. We moved to Charlottesville (John’s home town). We resided in Charlottesville for six years while John taught seventh grade English and I was a homemaker until we were called to the ministry in 1981. This led us to spend three years in Fort Worth , TX , while John got his second Masters, this one in Divinity and I worked as a medical secretary. We loved Texas but after graduation we moved back East realizing family was important and too far away. We served two churches in Virginia and now serve a church here in Greensboro , NC . We’ve been here for eight years. I am now a certified medical records coder. Since moving to Greensboro , I have been working for fourteen Urologists. I love what I do and thanks to the government with all their regulations, I am always learning.
Cassie has been a real blessing. She received her undergrad from Virginia Tech, married Steve and got a Masters from NC State in Applied Math. She and Steve live in Boston , MA , where she works for The Lincoln Labs at MIT (a defense company) and Steve works for Wyeth as a research biologist. They have too small boys. The only complaint I have with my daughter is that she lives too far away and it is hard to be a doting grandmother from this distance. This tempts us to contemplate a move to Boston for retirement. Burrrr! Needless to say, our lives revolve around the church and the Lord Jesus Christ. We are very busy. I have worn many different hats being the minister wife: Pastor to the pastor, minister to young mothers and other women, babysitter, wedding coordinator, choir member, WMU leader, Sunday School teacher, you name it - I have probably done it. Count it all joy! Life has been good to us and I hope for all of you. |
