Classmates
The most important part of this effort is to reconnect with friends in the great class of 1966. As Baby Boomers, think about what we’ve experienced, from learning cursive with cartridge pens to posting Instagram images with our smart phones; from learning about JFK’s assassination during the school day to watching the Twin Towers fall on 9/11; and for many of us, going from worrying about prom dates to welcoming grandchildren into our lives. It’s an amazing time to be living! Let’s celebrate and share.

From the 40th reunion: Greetings from WJ Territory- some people don't get too far...out of town that is. We are living in Bethesda off old Georgetown Road. After graduation and attending U of MD majoring in elementary education with a minor in music and partying I ended up in retail management of ladies ready to wears shops, Casual Corner, Rosendorf Evans and than became a buyer/dept. manager for Bloomingdales. In 1973 I married Larry Kent, also a WJ grad (class of '64). Larry is a lawyer in a local Montgomery County Law Firm, Kidwell, Kent & Curran. We have two children, Allison, age 27 and James Justin, age 25. After having our children I started selling residential real estate in Montgomery County. I enjoy matching up families with new homes. Our daughter Allison went to WJ (class of '97) and was SGA President. Allison went on to U of MD and majored in biology and now is a consultant with Accenture. She married Russ Cotner in May of this year and she and her new husband live in DC. Russ recently graduated from the Darden School of Business at U.VA with an MBA and is a banker with M & T Bank. We are delighted to have Russ in the family. He comes from a PA farming background where his family are in agribusiness. Our son James is a musician. He graduated from Cleveland Institute of Music(Case Western U) and currently is the Principal Trombonist in Florida West Coast Symphony in Sarasota. Last year he lived in Tel Aviv where he was the Principal Trombonist in the Israel Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta. That was a real thrill for him at age 24. For fun, Larry and I enjoy traveling. Last year during the war in Israel we viisited our son James in Tel Aviv and enjoyed visiting the famous biblical sites despite the war. The summer before we spent some time in northern Germany again visiting James while he was touring with the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. One of our most memorable trips was a couple of years ago when we toured in Italy with our friends Bill and Jenny Hunter of Louisville. Bill was a old pal of Larry's from law school and Jenny I first met in the University Chapel Choir at U of MD. Bill was in our wedding 33 years ago. Larry and I both enjoy music. I sing in the choir at Fourth Presbyterian Church and Larry plays trumpet in the church orchestra and the U of MD Community Band We also enjoy attending concerts especially if our son is performing. Last month James did some sub work with the National Symphony Orchestra for an injured player before he assumed his new position in Sarasota. |

Comment: After graduating from WJ, I went to work for the Montgomery County Division of Highway Engineering, where I conducted tests on procedures and materials used in highway construction. When I received my draft notice, I joined the Marines, in which I served one enlistment, including a tour in South Vietnam. When released from active duty, I attended the University of Maryland, during which time I met my wife, Monica. After undergraduate school, I went to the University of Maryland Law School. I spent the next 12 years as an Assistant State's Attorney in Prince George's County, where I prosecuted a wide variety of criminal cases. Needing a new job after my boss was not reelected, I went to work for the General Counsel of the Navy and was assigned to the Naval Sea Systems Command, where I litigated personnel action appeals and provided legal support in the acquisition of submarine combat systems and surface ship defense systems. After 10 years there, I was reassigned as the general counsel for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service ("NCIS," but not to be confused with the TV show), where I remained for 19 years until my retirement in September 2015. We live in Crofton, Maryland, near Annapolis. Since my retirement, Monica and I spend much of our time with our 2 daughters, Laura and Amy, and their husbands and children. Grandchild #6 is currently on the way. Although retirement is great, I might need to find some kind of job to stay busy. |

From the 40th reunion: I always felt pretty alienated by everything in high school so I don't have very warm memories of that 4 years. After high school I went to East Carolina College, which is now East Carolina University. The plan was that Bennie Polhman and I were going together, but she applied too late so I went alone. I met some wonderful friends there, discovered drugs, sex,rock-n-roll and also discovered that there was a war going on and people I knew were getting drafted and killed or were coming back horribly wounded and changed. I started out majoring in English and Balkan History, but soon discovered that if I wanted really good teachers they only taught the classes for folks majoring in their subject sooo....I changed my major regularly to get the good classes!! Needless to say, no degree! From there I went to G.W. U. and the Corcoran School of the Arts and began to get more active in social change and justice, did the Counterinaugeral Ball and March during Nixon's regime..(remember that?) From there to San Francisco for a couple of years, involved in the People's Park protests and anti war demonstrations, fell in love, went back to East Carolina where my future husband joined me. We were married by the judged who booked us (!!), spent the night in jail, then hitchiked back to Ca. the next day. There's actually a write-up of the wedding in a couple of N Carolina papers, one titled "In Bonds Of..." From San Fransisco up to Tacoma, Washington by way of friends met in Frisco to a tiny community right on the banks of Puget Sound called Salmon Beach. At the base of a 200 foot cliff reached by boat or going up and down about 200 stairs, "the poor man's fitness club". The houses are built on pilings right on the beach with a trail running behind. I bought my house for...are you ready...$2,700 back in '71...best investment I ever made! Anyway, let's fast-forward, shall we? 2 sons later, Jesse, now 33 years old is a commercial electrician and lives on a boat on Lake Washington and Robin, 28 years old is married and almost finished with his Master's in green architecture. Rick and I divorced after 9 years of an interesting but very crappy marriage, I moved away from the beach and went back to school and became an Occupational Therapist with a specialty in mental health (wonder why, duh!), then became a Mental Health therapist and have worked for Comprehensive Mental Health in Tacoma Wa for 22 years. I still am very active in peace, social justice and community issues to the point where I feel like I really don't have time for a day job! Anyway, to wind up this windy bio, my life is interesting, busy, with a wonderful group of friends and an activist community. I spend as much time as I can gardening and with my 2 gigantic doggies and with my best friend Xeno and his 2 gigantic doggies.
