Classmates
The most important part of this effort is to reconnect with friends in the great class of 1966. As Baby Boomers, think about what we’ve experienced, from learning cursive with cartridge pens to posting Instagram images with our smart phones; from learning about JFK’s assassination during the school day to watching the Twin Towers fall on 9/11; and for many of us, going from worrying about prom dates to welcoming grandchildren into our lives. It’s an amazing time to be living! Let’s celebrate and share.

Comment: Since the last reunion. I retired from a stressful job. Retirement lasted about 6 weeks until a customer who I had helped start up many years ago contacted me and said he had a sweet offer for me. It was an outside sales job covering Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania with a vehicle, computer, phone, and office at home. Thought I might try it for a year but it wound up lasting 5 plus years until November of 2015 when Masco Corp spun us off to a smaller outfit. The new folks wanted me to become a 68 year old superman and that is when I said enough and retired for good, I think. I have had other offers but I am still retired. My wife of 41 years, Dolores, just retired from WABTEC on March 1, 2016. Our two sons are in our neighborhood and we have three grandsons one block away. We are headed for Tennessee to see friends and then on to our second home in Alabama. We might be back in time for the reunion. I have not missed one. I would look forward to seeing some of you but if not, have a great time. |

Comment:
Jim Skidmore and I married in September, 1970, and we settled in rural West Virginia in 1971. We've lived in the same house since 1977, enjoying the wildlife and a pace that is significantly slower (and healthier) than that found in Montgomery County, Maryland. Jim retired from his career as a radiologic technologist in 2010, and found a "second act" as a driver for Barbour County's Public Transporttation. I began teaching guitar in 1976, added piano in the '90s, and added lever harp in 2009. I'm still at it, as well as playing traditional music with a group of local musicians. Important changes to life here have been the addition of the lovely English daughter-in-law our son married in 2013, and the very functional knee replacement I added last year. (Friends, these are not the Golden Years; they are the Titanium Years.) I was browsing through my WJ yearbooks recently, and came across an interesting autograph. Miss Diane Abelman, American History teacher, signed my 1964-65 yearbook: "To Karen--who should spend more time with her history book and less time with her guitar." I'm attaching a photo of myself with my ever-present guitar. The gentleman standing to my right is then-Governor of West Virginia (and now U.S. Senator) Joe Manchin. |

Comment: After working 25 years with the Frederick County Public Schools, in Frederick, MD., I love being retired. I stay very busy. I have a circle of friends who I am active with and at times wonder how I ever had time to work. I volunteer at a local Title I elementary school, am active in our church, love to spend quality time with our six grandchildren (5 granddaughters and 1 grandson) and love having time to travel with my husband of 48 + years. We are fortunate that our sons and daughter-in-laws and their families live close by so we are able to see them often. I feel that being a wife, mom, and most of all a grandparent are the greatest gifts life can offer. I feel very blessed. |
