Classmates
The most important part of this effort is to reconnect with friends in the great class of 1966. As Baby Boomers, think about what we’ve experienced, from learning cursive with cartridge pens to posting Instagram images with our smart phones; from learning about JFK’s assassination during the school day to watching the Twin Towers fall on 9/11; and for many of us, going from worrying about prom dates to welcoming grandchildren into our lives. It’s an amazing time to be living! Let’s celebrate and share.

After graduation, I went to school at George Washington U, and studied zoology and becoming a hippie. A lot happened in Washington, DC during those years which help shape my ideology. But, upon graduation, I was #6 in the first draft lottery and ended up pursuing the field of dentistry because it was a draft deferment. I meet my wife in my first year in Baltimore. She was a nursing student who was looking to marry a MD but settled on a DDS. I stayed in state, opened 2 practices and finally settled down with one in Columbia, MD. The town interested me because of my liberal roots. Raised 2 kids, now have 2 grandchildren and I am retired but teaching part time. Having a keen desire to scuba dive, I learned and that has taken me many places around the world. Having my father's eye for the art of photography, I have done work both underwater and above. My other primary interest I thank Larry Gordon for because he was kind enough to allow me to play golf with him at times. I think that I lead a full life and my free time now I dedicate to volunteer interests which are about to take me to Honduras to provide care for the needy. Both my profession and my background hayloft me in a position to pay back for all that was given me. |

I spent my WJ years and a few years after fumbling & flailing about. Married & moved out West, first to San Diego and then to Colorado where I managed to return to college, enjoy and finish. I majored in art, making a living was never foremost in my mind! I worked in the Med Ed department of a big teaching hospital designing audio visual teaching programs, taking pictures for doctors, other duties as assigned. Eventually, I moved to Massachusetts to be near family. I met my husband in 1988, we have been enjoying a fairy tale romance ever since. We live in West Barnstable, on the Cape, where we spend our time working on our 1793 house, Eric golfs, I paint. I retired from Cape Cod Community College, where I worked as an Academic Advisor. Our grandkids live in Amherst, not too far away. It seems like life is absolutely wonderful right now! |

From the 40th reunion: Married 1969, Mother of 3 in the years 1971, 1976, 1978. Stay at home mom, loving my family and trying to nurture them, doing it my way, taking small steps adopting culture through hollow and deceptive philosophy. Developing opinions forgetting convictions, choosing not to wash my thinking by the Word of God. Married to the same man 36 years, we cannot take all the credit for that, as I look back, it can only be explained as the Mighty Hand of God.
Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, thyroid problems and depression as the “empty nest” crept forward, life looked bleak (lost my purpose). God is our Provider, He is the Great Physician. So, with a humble heart, knowing that I chose to do wrong and failed to do good, I cried out to Jesus who is the promised Christ, the Son of God, the Son of Man, Messiah, Y’shua, the Holy One of Israel, The Anointed One, the Redeemer, Savior (no one needs the Savior until they know they need the Savior) – He has so many names, My Strong Tower, the Kinsman Redeemer, Lamb of God, the Bread of Life, the Good Shepherd, the great I AM, the Living God, so the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world healed me. He is all of that and so much more. Now I live in peace amidst the chaos by the grace of the Most High God. I no longer take medication for depression or arthritis. I made the choice to believe (Abraham was saved by faith long before the law came in), and in faith I traded depression, pain and fear, for the peace and the joy of the Lord. I am now a child of Abraham through faith. You see, by faith, Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. The Word of the Lord is flawless, “through Abraham’s offspring all nations of the earth will be blessed” and that included me. Life is meant to be cherished, a free gift is offered to each of us and true love is a sacrifice. By His cross I am healed. What a difference relationship makes, enjoying freedoms I never knew. No longer under the law, I live protected by the strong arm of the Lord, under His grace and tender mercies. I now look forward to the most exciting adventure of all. What is to come. The prophet Jeremiah said, “If you seek me, you will find me, when you seek me with all of your heart.” Jeremiah also said, “Call to me and I will answer and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” How can we honor the prophets of the Bible and not believe what they said? He is The Way, the Truth and the Life. Y’shua said, “I came to save the lost sheep of Israel .” “The kingdom of God is near, the kingdom of God is at hand.” God said, man said, who do you choose to believe? |

Comment: Harvard College 1966-1970. Honors graduate in Psychology. Harvard Divinity School 1970-1973. Daughter Elspeth born 1972. Musician, teacher, statistician/programmer, OEM account executive, product marketing manager, and after my third near death experience shamanic energy healer! Adult baseball, old man hockey, snow boarding, surfing (east coast championship finals twice), and standup paddle boarding are some recreational sports that I still pursue. My daughter got married in my yard and hanging out in Philly with my grandson is wonderful. My spiritual practice which I have been following since 1974 is the only thing that really matters! Zen Pure Flatwater Paddling Meditation! Tom asked.....Hey Cleve why have you not used that three yrs of Divinity Schooling at Harvard? His reply "Theology and comparative mysticism not so much. Pastoral counseling as taught by Carl Rogers of client centered counseling invaluable in my alternative healing and counseling practice for twenty years." |

I've really enjoyed reading some of the other profiles and getting back in touch with a number of you. We really did have some amazing people in our class. It's been great fun catching up. I'm currently a patent trial lawyer with Covington & Burling in San Diego and LA. For most of my career, I've litigated on behalf of high technology companies, typically semiconductor companies. The challenge, and therefore the fascination, is always learning the technology well enough to explain it in simple terms to a judge and jury, and to cut through the technical aspects of a case to the drama underneath. I've also taught patent, copyright and trade secret law in various law schools. In the future I plan to do more teaching. Next year I'll be teaching law school courses in patent litigation and information privacy law. I'm married to Valerie, and we have 3 boys. |
